Practical AI for SMEs

Practical AI for your team, built around real work.

Group sessions for teams, communities, and networks. Hands-on from the first minute, built around tasks your group actually does. No slides, no theory, no jargon.

    See what we cover

    Who it is for.

Business teams who want to get their people using AI confidently and consistently. Women in business networks and founder communities who want to offer members a practical session they will actually use. Any group of people who are curious about AI but find the conversation around it overwhelming. If your group has been talking about AI without doing anything about it, a workshop is the fastest way to change that.

    What we cover.

    • What AI tools are actually useful right now, and which ones are worth ignoring
    • How to use ChatGPT, Claude, and Microsoft Copilot for everyday business tasks
    • Practical exercises built around the real work your group does - writing, admin, research, planning, customer communication
    • Common mistakes people make with AI tools, and how to avoid them
    • How to build AI into daily work without it becoming another thing to manage

    How it works.

    • Half-day or full-day: workshops run as half-day sessions (3 hours) or full-day sessions (6 hours) depending on your group's needs
    • Hands-on throughout: no presentations, no passive listening - attendees work with real AI tools from the first minute
    • Built around your group: we talk to you before the session to understand your industry and the tasks your group actually does, so the examples land
    • In-person or online: available in Inverness and across the Highlands and Islands, with travel to other parts of Scotland and the UK, and online for groups anywhere

    What attendees leave with.

    • Confidence using at least two AI tools for tasks relevant to their work
    • A short written summary of what was covered and the tools used
    • Practical prompts and workflows they can use immediately
    • Two weeks of email access to ask follow-up questions as they put things into practice

    Who leads the workshops.

Led by Jill McAlpine, founder of inpurpose, alongside Geoff Todd, founder of Farsight Digital Solutions. Jill has run workshops for business teams, women's networks, and founder communities across Scotland and the UK. She came to AI without a technical background herself, which means she knows exactly where people get stuck and how to get them unstuck quickly.

What people said after the last Build Day.

If you're curious about AI but feeling overwhelmed by where to start, or if you're already using AI and want to take it beyond simple prompts, I can highly recommend the AI Build Day. What made the day stand out was how practical it was. There was very little theory for theory's sake. Instead, we were encouraged to get stuck in, build, test, experiment and explore what AI could actually do for our own businesses. I went in already using AI extensively, but I left with new ideas, new skills and a completely different perspective on what is possible.

    More than Motivation

I came to this course as a complete beginner and left feeling genuinely ready to start using AI in my work. Everything was presented clearly and at a pace that made it easy to follow. It was practical, motivating and very well put together. I can already see how AI will fit into how I run Plan Ahead Design, and I am looking forward to putting it into practice.

    Plan Ahead Design

The AI Build Day was absolutely brilliant. I had some experience already, but being able to switch off from day to day work and spend a really focused day trying out new tools and tricks with experts in the room to help really boosted my confidence. I used Claude on the way home to crack a juicy challenge and was very impressed by the result - much better than I would have achieved self-learning on my own.

Really enjoyed the event - brilliant to be in person, meet new people, hear about how they are using AI and learn new tools on the day. Don't be put off if you feel you don't know something. That is the whole point of these events.
